Character line up for Hogwash - An illustrated, interactive, urban-fantasy story based on the classic Three Little Pigs.
Hogwash was a group project consisting of myself and three other classmates.
The Pitch for Hogwash:
The story begins with a murder mystery, B.B.Woolfe has been found dead after an attempted break-in at the youngest of the three Pigg brothers’ home. The Pigg’s claim that Mr.Woolfe’s unfortunate end was a case of self-defence, but that may not really be the case. The reader will follow a local detective as they uncover clues to discover the true circumstances of B.B.Woolfe’s murder.
In Hogwash, we’ve taken a modern spin on the classic tale of The Three Little Pigs. Instead of farm lands populated by anthropomorphic animals, our story will take place in the city with human characters inspired by their animal counterparts.
Designs and initial concept sketches were done by myself.
Coloring was done by another group member, however I supervised the process.
THE MAIN CHARACTERS
B.B. Wolfe - This character meets an unfortunate before the story even begins. He's found dead in the home of the youngest Pigg brother.
Keeping in mind that he was representative of the big bad wolf, we wanted to give him a very scruffy, and slightly intimidating look. I decided to design him with the classic top-heavy proportions similar to older cartoon villains.
That being said B.B., along with the other main characters of Hogwash, isn't exactly what the same as their classic fairly tale counter part. It was important that B.B. showed some softness in his design as well; so we decided to make him slightly more proportional and gave him larger eyes.
The Pigg Brothers - They are the main focus of the story as the suspects of a potential murder. Being based off pigs, we gave them slightly upturned noses, big pot bellies, and pinkish skin.
Stephen Straw Pigg - The oldest, and most honest Pigg. He's a complete slob which is a result of his absolute lazyness, the total opposite of his youngest brother. Stephen will put little to no effort into his appearance and is often seen snacking.
Wilfred Wood Pigg - The middle Pigg brother and the "muscle" of the bunch. We wanted to show that he was more aggressive and had a darker personality compared to his brothers so we all agreed on darker clothes and an unimpressed, arms crossed pose.
Barnaby Brick Pigg- The youngest of the Pigg brothers. He's also the genius, mastermind of the three; therefore, I gave him a very serious, intellectual looking design.
THE SIDE CHARACTERS
These are characters that the reader can encounter as they go through the story. For them we decided to go with characters that were already depicted as human in their original stories, but had some connections to wolves or farm animals.
Shepard Boiye - Shepard is based on the boy who cried wolf. We placed him in the story to mislead the reader into making a wrong choice in the story. He over exaggerates the dark story behind B.B. Wolfe's family with no remorse of the possible consequences. Inspired by old illustrations of Shepherds and modern fashion, we gave him a mix of tight and loose clothes. He hangs out in the more suburban area of town and shares a duplex unit with Wilfred Pigg.
Little Red - Little red ridding hood inspired this character. She's written as Barnaby's neighbor in our story. I modernized her red cape into a jacket and the basket into a messenger bag. Like her name suggests, she's the shortest character in the story. Most think she's a young kid, not an adult.

Mary Hadalilam - Mary is based off the classic "Mary had a little lamb" nursery rhyme. Her lamb in this case is a very cute backpack which she never leaves home without. She lives in the more rural area on the edge of the city, around where Stephen Pigg lives.
